Highlighting Six UCSF Specialty Trainee Programs at ZSFG
While ZSFG is a training site for many UCSF residency and fellowship programs, some GME programs spend the majority of their clinical time at ZSFG. These are:
Family and Community Medicine Residency Program
The residency program was established alongside the Department of Public Health's community clinic system. The program equips residents with the knowledge and skills to care for individuals and families with diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds and prepares them to be a force for eliminating healthcare disparities.
San Francisco General Internal Medicine Primary Care Track
This is a track within the Internal Medicine residency program and residents have their continuity primary care clinic at The Richard Fine People's Clinic, one of the first outpatient clinics at a public hospital. The mission of this track is to teach the practice of comprehensive high-quality medicine for the underserved.
SURGICAL CRITICAL CARE SURGERY AND TRAUMA AND ACUTE CARE SURGERY FELLOWSHIP
This program trains fellows with clinical and administrative skills necessary to assume a leadership role in Critical Care and Trauma/Acute Care Surgery. Fellows care for complex surgical patients primarily at ZSFG and develop skills in trauma systems development, injury prevention, and performance improvement.
Complex Family Planning Fellowship
This program allows fellows to participate in a fully integrated clinical and research environment. Fellows provide clinical care in one of the largest second-trimester outpatient clinics in the country and work directly with leaders in the specialty of family planning to conduct clinical trials, epidemiology studies, and policy evaluation.
Primary Care Addiction Medicine Fellowship
The program prepares primary care physicians to become leaders in the care of persons affected by unhealthy substance use. Fellows receive training in addiction medicine services and harm reduction practice and policies.
UCSF Public Psychiatry Fellowship at ZSFG
This fellowship focuses on developing public-academic partnerships to facilitate mental health services research projects that improve some aspect of patient care. Fellows are trained to care for patients with severe mental illness and receive their clinical experience in community sites where they can get hands-on experience working with underserved populations.
