The UCSF School of Medicine Vice Dean's Office at ZSFG hosts many events throughout the year, in order to highlight and raise awareness for many important causes and themes; such as diversity, equity, inclusion, career journey stories, and professional development.
UCSF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Events at ZSFG
The Dean's Office at ZSFG is committed to supporting UCSF and ZSFG diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and hosts events to support those values and engage the community at ZSFG.
Offerings include interactive panel discussions about topics of interest to the UCSF community at ZSFG and viewing of selected films, followed by a panel discussion of film themes. Panelists are drawn from our well-regarded UCSF faculty and staff at ZSFG, partners, and community members with expertise in the themes.
Given our patient population and institutional missions, event topics range from discussion of community outreach programs, social justice in public health, and many other health care and social justice issues occurring locally and across the world. All events are designed to be informative and inspirational, ofen providing an overview of the innovative UCSF programs at ZSFG.

In the first UCSF Provider Experience at ZSFG Town Hall, Starr Knight, MD, founding UCSF Director of Faculty Experience at ZSFG, presented UCSF at ZSFG Provider Engagement Survey findings and resulting initiatives, such as ZSFG Lactation Support, EMR Support (M-Modal), department support, and forming the ZSFG Provider Experience Council. The UCSF Staff Career Journey Storytelling Event at ZSFG series, also known as StoryCore, aims to highlight staff leaders who share their career journeys via a storytelling mode. Initiated by the Dean's Office, the initiative was developed to inspire and benefit UCSF staff at ZSFG who listen to featured panelists share structured and personal narratives, followed by a Q&A with the audience. Women of UCSF Health offered a week of programming for International Women's Day 2022, including A Fireside Chat with former SOM Vice Dean Sue Carlisle, MD, PhD. Dr. Carlisle, interviewed by Margaret Damiano, MBA, Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, remembers her career journey and her nearly 40 years working for UCSF and UCSF at ZSFG. Featuring video tributes by Chancellor Hawgood and Warm Hearts.

Advocay 101: Work with policy makers to support clinical care and research at UCSF
UCSF's Director of Local and State Government Relations, Aimee Alden and Director of Advocacy & Communications, Abby Ellis, taught how UCSF's Office of Community and Government Relations can help you to effectively work with policy makers and to advocate for your students, fellow clinicians, and important research here at ZSFG.
SFDPH, ZSFG, and UCSF partnered together to host Dr. Anthony Fauci on the ZSFG campus at UCSF Pride Hall on October 5, 2023. Dr. Grant Colfax, Director of SFDPH, introduced the former director of the NIAID, who engaged the audience in a conversation on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Fauci went beyond his 10 lessons learned- answering questions and sharing his experience through his decades of public service and providing care to millions around the world. He applauded San Francisco's COVID response and was honest and humorous in reminding everyone to stay true to our values in the loving care we provide every day.
